Encampment
Beginning just East of the Continental Divide in northern Colorado, the Encampment River briefly wanders north into Wyoming where it will soon converge with the North Platte River. As you cross the Colorado-Wyoming border, the river snakes through a sensational, 18 mile long, wilderness protected canyon. For the next 25 miles, the river takes a more meandering course before joining the North Platte River just upstream of the Treasure Island access. Upstream of the towns of Encampment and Riverside, WY, access to this wonderful water is virtually unlimited as much of it flows through the Medicine Bow National Forest and Wilderness areas. Grabbing a 4 weight, a small box of dry flies, and spending a few days in the solitude is the best way to experience this wonderland. Downstream of Encampment and Riverside, the most notable section of the Encampment River can be accessed by one of our fantastic Encampment River guided float trips. The Encampment guided float trip is best timed somewhere between mid-June and mid-July. During run-off on our local freestone streams, this is a great place to spend the day on a raft slugging browns on caddis, green drakes and big hoppers. This is a blissful place to fish, and it always has our phones ringing off the hook during the early summer. With an abundance of quality fish, deer, moose, elk and much more, a camera is a necessity for any Encampment River guide trip. A unique setting with hungry fish will have anglers wishing for more.
