most scenic places in the country.

Fly fishing is the perfect screen-free activity that encourages learning, patience, and appreciation for the outdoors. And in Rocky Mountain National Park—with its wildlife, clear streams, and peaceful meadows—it becomes something truly special. Our family trips are built for beginners, with a relaxed pace, gentle waters, and expert instruction to keep things fun and engaging from the first cast to the last.

We offer half-day guided trips and full-day guided trips, that are perfect for young anglers or families new to fly fishing. These trips are custom-built to
match your family’s pace and interest level, with plenty of breaks for snacks,
photos, or just soaking in the mountain views. Our guides are friendly, patient,
and experienced at teaching kids and adults alike—so no one feels left behind.

Guided Fly Fishing Trips with St. Peter’s Fly Shop

Some of our favorite family-friendly fishing spots include Moraine
Park, where the Big Thompson River winds through open meadows filled with elk; the Upper Big Thompson, which offers easy access and calm water near Estes Park; and Sprague Lake or Lily Lake, which are stillwater options perfect for young kids or grandparents who prefer a more
relaxed setting. For slightly older kids or more adventurous families, lower
Glacier Creek offers classic pocket water with just the right amount of
challenge. Click here to read more about some of our favorite waters in Rocky Mountain National Park to fish and explore.

All trips include top-quality gear, including rods, waders, boots, and all the flies and tackle you’ll need.  Along the way, we teach the basics of catch-and-release ethics and respecting the wild places we fish in. The goal isn’t just to catch fish—it’s to build confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong
love of nature.

Our guides love working with families and are selected not just for their fishing skills, but for their ability to teach and ensure everyone has a great time on the water. From a child’s first trout to a grandparent’s quiet moment by the river, these trips are about connection.

You don’t need to bring anything but your Colorado fishing license, weather-appropriate clothing, and a sense of adventure. We’ll handle the rest. Trips typically run around 4 hours for a half day and 8 hours for a full day, keeping things fun and flexible. We fish rain or shine, but always adapt to keep everyone comfortable and safe.

Families love fishing with St. Peter’s because we make it
easy, welcoming, and truly memorable.

Still have questions? Here are a few we get often:

Is fly fishing safe for kids? Absolutely. We take a safety-first approach, and our guides are great with kids.

What’s the best age to start? Around 10 and up is ideal, but we welcome younger children too with close parental supervision.

Will we catch fish? Often, yes—but the main goal is to have fun, learn something new, and enjoy time together outside.

If you’re looking for a way to unplug, connect as a family, and explore the outdoors in a meaningful, hands-on way, there’s no better place than Rocky Mountain National Park—and no better partner than St. Peter’s Fly Shop.

Book your family fly fishing adventure today and let us help you create memories that last far beyond your time on the water.
