Horsetooth Reservoir Fishing Report
Latest Update: 6/29/2025
The fishing at Horsetooth has been great over the last few weeks, we expect this trend to continue for the next couple of weeks. It's definitely time to grab your rod, a few poppers and hit the water! Fish are up shallow, and the bite is officially on. Whether you're targeting smallmouth bass, panfish, trout, or even carp, the action has been consistent and exciting from explosive topwater eats to hard hitting walleye and trout on buggers, clousers/baitfish and crayfish patterns.
Cicadas are still around and will be most active on hot days. This allows us to throw a mix of poppers and large terrestrial dry flies. Key areas to focus on include sunken timber, submerged rocks, and structure leading into smaller coves and bays. These spots are holding fish and offering great opportunities for well-placed surface presentations.
As the weeks progress, more fish will continue to move shallow, keeping the action steady—at least until the peak summer heat sets in. For now, it’s prime time for fly anglers looking to enjoy aggressive surface eats and active fish!
