Current Streamflow: 20 cfs @ Encampment

We are inching closer and closer to fall and we begin to see the fishing on the Encampment river wind down as the flows continue to drop. Depending on day time temperatures it may pay off to still temp the water to find out if the river is worth fishing. If the water is temping out below 65 degrees get in there and throw dry dropper rigs with Morrish Hoppers, Streambank Hoppers, and the old faithful Chubby Chernobyls. You'll want to size them down to a #12-16 but these flies are large meals to keep those fish satisfied. Unlike humans, fish don't stop eating when they are full. Move the grasshoppers as they drift giving it some life, making it look vulnerable and helpless. Use brown and green Tickets below to imitate the caddis larvae that inhabit the river bottoms or a Duracell Nymph or Two Bit hooker to mimic the smaller mayfly nymphs that are crawling the tops of rocks. If you notice bugs hatching, consider throwing small Pale Morning Dun or Caddis adults trailed by Sparkle Wing RS2's or Mayhem emergers which will imitate the bugs in or just below the surface film. This is another great way to represent an unguarded meal. If you notice that there aren't many fish rising you may want to survey through some deeper runs with caddis larvae, pupae, mayfly nymphs, and emergers to help get a better pulse for what is going on in the mysterious underworld that we know and love as a stream.
