Spend a day this spring chasing big wild trout with guide Kellen Chaney. Kellen knows this fishery like the back of his hand and has spent the last several years refining his techniques on this river. After countless days on the water each spring, he’s ready to share that experience with you.
Spring on the Encampment is one of the best times of the year to target quality fish. Expect strong BWO and midge hatches with legitimate dry fly windows, technical nymphing through deep buckets and pocket water, and aggressive streamer eats as fish look to pack weight back on after winter.
The Encampment consistently produces high-quality trout averaging 15–18 inches, with real shots at fish over 20 inches. Pre-spawn rainbows are fired up, and this is often when the biggest fish of the year show up.
Single-angler trips allow us to move efficiently, cover water thoroughly, and dial in on the best opportunities throughout the day.

Kellen Chaney
A Fort Collins local, Kellen started fly fishing the Poudre and Big Thompson at a young age and lives to be on the water. He’s spent time fishing Alaska, Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado, chasing anything willing to eat a fly. Around home, Kellen enjoys Fort Collins’ carp fisheries and long summer dry-fly days on the Poudre. His countless hours on the water make him a valuable resource on both local rivers and larger tailwaters.
