Scott Fly Rods Unveils the New GT Series: Tradition Meets Innovation
Scott Fly Rods has just released their highly anticipated GT
Series, and we couldn’t be more excited. For those familiar with Scott, the
G Series has long been one of the company’s most iconic and enduring rod
families. Known for its classic full-flex action, it’s been the go-to choice
for dry fly anglers who love that smooth, buttery feel on the water.
A Legacy of Innovation
When most rod companies introduce a new lineup, they tend to
start fresh with a new name. Not Scott. The G Series name carries too
much heritage and passion to be left behind. Instead, Scott continues to refine
it, integrating the latest materials and technology while staying true to the
rod’s soulful feel and balanced action.
Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to experience these subtle but meaningful refinements. My very first premium dry fly rod — a gift from my father when I was just a kid — was a G Series. I still have it, and I
lovingly call it the OG (Original Gangster) of my dry fly rods. That rod started my
obsession with dry fly fishing and set the standard for what a fly rod should feel
like.
Evolution Through the Generations
Fast forward three or four generations of G Series rods
later, and I now own several models from different eras. To truly appreciate
the progress, I recently took all of them out and cast them side by side with
the new GT Series.
Even for a novice caster, the differences were immediately
noticeable. The GT rods are faster, more responsive, and remarkably accurate —
yet they retain that signature “Scott feel” that’s made the G Series so
beloved. The recovery speed is lightning quick, the accuracy is dialed in, and
the smoothness is unmistakable.
The Verdict
The GT Series represents everything anglers love
about the G lineage, elevated by modern craftsmanship and cutting-edge design.
It’s proof that Scott can push the limits of performance without losing the
heart and soul of their classic feel.
If you’re a fan of Scott Fly Rods or simply a dry fly purist
looking for the perfect blend of tradition and technology, the new GT Series
deserves a place in your hands — and on your favorite stretch of water.
Engineering Excellence: Inside the Scott GT Series Design
The new Scott GT Series Fly Rods are not just a continuation of a legacy — they’re a showcase of engineering mastery. At the heart of these advancements is wall thickness and Scott’s X-Core design philosophy. The GT Series is the first lineup to feature Scott’s latest generation of X-Core technology, resulting in the thinnest-walled blanks ever produced by the company.
Using multi-modulus layups paired with ARC2 multi-directional fibers, Scott has achieved a dramatic increase in recovery speed, line speed, and stability. These rods track straighter, cast cleaner, and recover faster — giving anglers unmatched control and accuracy with every cast.
Scott also redesigned their signature hollow internal ferrule, making it up to 20% lighter while improving flex consistency throughout the rod. The result? Each section works seamlessly in harmony, so these 4- and 5-piece rods feel like a single-piece blank. Combined with thinner walls, the GT transmits an incredible level of
sensitivity — from the faintest take to the slightest current shift, you can
feel everything.
Art Meets Craft: The Details That Matter
Of course, true to Scott’s reputation, the GT Series
isn’t just about performance — it’s also about craftsmanship. Each rod is a
functional work of art. The milled aluminum reel seats feature a Type
3 hard coat finish and stunning cocobolo wood inserts. The grips are
crafted from premium Flor-grade cork, ensuring comfort and longevity.
On the functional side, titanium-framed Zirconia
“no-tangle” stripping guides pair beautifully with Snake Brand Universal
snake guides, optimizing both durability and line flow. And as always,
Scott adds those subtle touches anglers appreciate — measuring wraps, alignment
dots, and handwritten inscriptions, complete with an individual
serial number.
Every single GT Series rod is handcrafted in
Montrose, Colorado, reflecting Scott’s unwavering commitment to precision
and pride in American rod building.
The Result: Feel, Function, and Soul
By blending cutting-edge materials with thoughtful design,
the Scott GT Series represents the pinnacle of what the G lineage stands
for — feel, performance, and soul. These rods aren’t just tools; they’re
an experience, built for anglers who value connection — to the fish, the water,
and the cast.
The Models in the Scott GT Family
GT 743/4, 7’ 4” 3 wt 4 pc
With this rod’s deep flexing action, touch sensitive tip, and small size, it’s perfect for short casts with dries and dry-dropper rigs in tight quarters. More accurate with higher line speed than glass, this is a great choice for people who prefer lighter quicker rods or fish in windy conditions on small waters.
GT 843/5, 8’ 4” 3 wt 5 pc
So smooth and balanced you won’t believe it’s a 5-piece rod. This little gem is perfect for hike in fishing on small streams and lakes where dries and dry-dropper rigs are the norm and packability is key.
GT 844/5, 8’ 4” 4 wt 5 pc
A versatile effortless casting 4 weight for days when mixed techniques on small to medium sized streams and lakes call for nymphs, dries, or small
streamers. This 5-piece is delicate enough to enjoy the tug of a small fish but has plenty of power to handle heavier flies and the big fish you didn’t expect to eat your hopper.
GT 8103/4, 8’ 10” 3 wt 4 pc
When midges or tricos are hatching bring your 7X, the 8103, and your A-game. This is hands down the finest technical dry fly fishing 3 weight we’ve
ever built. Incredibly smooth with a delicate but precise tip, this rod is laser accurate and alive with feel.
GT 8104/4, 8’ 10” 4 wt 4 pc
A trusted friend who has fished Scott rods for over 40 years proclaimed, ‘this is the greatest 4 weight of my life’. We’d have to agree. There’s magic here. The rod perfectly balances a sensitive tip with smooth even power. Effortless to cast and control, incredibly precise, and a joy to fish.
GT 8105/4, 8’ 10” 5 wt 4 pc
This rod will handle heavier nymph rigs and let you fish the afternoon midge hatch on 7X. Endless possibilities with this ‘one rod to rule them all’. Long roll casts, precise overhead casts with long leaders, reverse curve casts. It’s a do it all rod that does it all well.
GT 8106/4, 8’ 10” 6 wt 4 pc
Drift boat fishing, a big Chubby with two weighted nymphs underneath, salmon flies, streamers. When you need to serve them a big meal, this is the rod. It
swings light in hand but delivers plenty of power. It excels at loop size control, long roll casts, and controlling big fish.
GT 984/4, 9’ 8” 4 wt 4 pc
Perfect for technical nymphing and tricky tailwaters. It swings like a 9 ft rod but the extra reach of this rod helps extend long drag free drifts with little
flies for finicky fish. It turns over the longest leaders with precision and protects light tippets.
GT 985/4, 9’ 8” 5 wt 4 pc
A great rod for big water nymphing, single hand spey casts,
or stillwater fishing. This powerful weight comes with a fighting butt and excels at long easycasts. It’s sensitive enough for trickyfishing like chironomid hatches and has the power to huck a streamer a country mile.
