FLOAT FISHING THE NORTH PLATTE CANYON WILDERNESS
3 Days / 2 Nights Guided Fly Fishing
Our Upper North Platte Wilderness Float is built around one thing: getting away from it all. This three-day, two-night adventure takes you deep into the North Platte River wilderness, where incredible fishing, remote camps, and long days on the water create one of the most unique trips we offer.
With just four anglers per launch, two fishing boats, and a dedicated camp hand, this is an intimate wilderness experience designed to maximize your time fishing while we take care of the rest.
Limited Window and an Incredible Fishery.
Timing is everything on the Upper North Platte. Our wilderness float season takes place during a short window in late spring and early summer, dictated by river flows, conditions, and access. This limited season coincides with some of the most exciting fishing of the year, when big water, big bugs, and hungry trout come together.
Stoneflies, caddis, mayflies, and other seasonal hatches create opportunities to fish a variety of techniques throughout the trip. Whether you're throwing giant dry flies or working the banks with streamers, every bend offers something different.
With only a handful of launches each year, availability is extremely limited. Each trip accommodates a maximum of four anglers, and many dates are reserved early by returning St. Peter's clients.
If the Upper North Platte is on your bucket list, we strongly recommend planning ahead to secure your spot.

The St. Peter’s Difference
Years of guiding the rivers of Northern Colorado and Wyoming have shaped how we approach every trip at St. Peter’s. Our Upper North Platte Wilderness Float takes that experience one step further, combining three days of guided fishing with a fully supported riverside camp. A dedicated camp hand stays ahead of the fishing boats to prepare camp, organize meals, and handle the details before you arrive. That means less time worrying about logistics and more time fishing, relaxing, and enjoying one of the most remote stretches of the North Platte.
The window to experience the Upper North Platte is short, and our wilderness floats are intentionally limited to just four anglers per launch. Prime dates regularly fill with returning St. Peter’s clients, so we recommend planning well in advance. If you have questions about the trip or would like to discuss upcoming dates, give us a call at 970-498-8968 or email shop@stpetes.com. We’d love to help you experience three unforgettable days on the Upper North Platte.
*A deposit is required for booking. All deposits are refundable, minus the 5% cancellation fee, up to 30 days prior to your trip. All cancellations within 30 days of trip are subject to forfeiture of deposit. Health and medical issues do not change the cancellation policy. Ifyou have any concern about the need to cancel, we recommend you purchase tripinsurance to cover costs.

Camp in Luxury
Springbar tents provide comfortable and spacious accommodations while still allowing you to enjoy the experience of camping in the wilderness. Their roomy interiors offer plenty of space to settle in, organize your gear, and relax after a long day on the river. Outfitted with comfortable cots and plenty of room to move around, they create a welcoming place to recharge before another full day of fishing.
ORIENTATION:
Before departure, your guides will provide an orientation covering river
safety, emergency procedures, camping expectations, and other important trip
information. At this time, each guest will be provided with a waterproof bag
for their personal belongings.
SCHEDULE:
On day one, we normally launch between 9:00 and 10:00 am. On subsequent days,
we generally depart camp between 8:30 and 10:00 am.
Each day will be spent floating and fishing from the boat.
We will stop at times to wade fish certain sections and enjoy a prepared lunch
on the water.
Depending on water levels and fishing conditions, we
typically arrive at camp between 4:00 and 7:00 pm. On the final day, we expect
to reach the take-out at approximately 4:00 pm.
MEALS & BEVERAGES:
All meals are included during your time on the river, starting with lunch on
the first day and ending with lunch on the final day. We’ll also have plenty of
water and a variety of beverages available throughout the trip, including
sports drinks, juice, coffee, and hot tea.
If you have any food allergies, dietary restrictions, or
special dietary needs, please let us know ahead of time so we can plan
accordingly.
CAMPING CONDITIONS:
Our riverside camps are located in designated backcountry sites, offering a
true wilderness camping experience. There is no running water or electricity at
camp, and a portable toilet system is provided for guest use.
Guests may wash in the river using biodegradable soap.
DRINKING WATER:
Fresh drinking water is carried on each raft and is available throughout the
trip.
LEAVE NO TRACE:
We are committed to leaving the river better than we found it. Everything we
bring into the wilderness comes back out with us, including all trash. Guests
are expected to help keep campsites and the river corridor clean throughout the
trip.
SWIMMING & RIVER SAFETY:
Guests must be comfortable actively participating in river safety and
self-rescue procedures. U.S. Coast Guard-approved PFDs are provided and must be
worn at all times while on the river. While PFDs provide flotation, whitewater
rescue situations still require active participation from each guest.
FISHING SKILL LEVEL:
Anglers of all experience levels are welcome. However, beginners will have a
much better experience if they arrive with a basic understanding of fly
casting, line management, and mending.
If you are completely new to fly fishing, we recommend
taking an introductory fly fishing course, casting lesson, or half-day guided
trip before your departure. Once we launch, we’ll be fishing moving water from
the raft. Your guides will provide instruction throughout the trip, but
familiarity with the fundamentals will help you get more out of your time on
the water.
CELL PHONE SERVICE:
Cell phone reception in the wilderness is unreliable or nonexistent. Guests
should plan to be without calls, texts, and regular cellular service for the
duration of the trip. Each boat carries satellite devices for emergency
communication if needed.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
A multi-night wilderness river trip can be physically demanding, and guests
should carefully consider their overall health, mobility, and fitness before
participating. Older guests or anyone with health concerns should be confident
in their ability to navigate uneven terrain, get in and out of rafts, spend
long days outdoors, and participate in an emergency or self-rescue situation if
necessary.
Please let us know in advance about any physical limitations
or concerns that could affect your ability to safely participate.
Altitude: The Platte River Wilderness area varies in
elevation from approximately 7,000 to 8,000 feet. If you are not accustomed to
higher elevations, we may recommend arriving a couple of days early to
acclimate. Please stay well hydrated before and during the trip.
AGE, WEIGHT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Participants must be at least 13 years old and weigh a minimum of 90 pounds.
Personal flotation devices (PFDs) are limited to a maximum chest size of 51
inches.
This is an active wilderness trip. Guests must be physically
capable of hiking while carrying their personal gear, navigating uneven
terrain, getting in and out of rafts, and participating in a self-rescue
situation should they enter the water. Please let us know in advance about any
physical limitations or concerns that could affect your ability to safely
participate.
Reservation Policy
Reservations are accepted by the boat, with each boat accommodating two participants.
A 50% deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your reservation. The remaining balance is due 90 days prior to the trip departure date.
Cancelation Policy
Cancellations must be made by the boat (in increments of (2)
participants). Cancellations made prior to 90 days will
forfeit a cancellation fee 10% of the trip total and must be received via email
(shop@stpetes.com) prior
to 90 days of trip departure. Any cancellations that occur within 90
days of trip departure are non-refundable. St. Peter’s is not
liable for cancellations due to weather conditions, road hazards, vehicle
breakdowns, medical emergencies, personal emergencies, high water flows, flash
floods or any other unforeseen conditions which may hinder our ability to
safely conduct the trip. The required Trip Cancellation Insurance will
be the only way to seek reimbursement under these circumstances.
Rescheduling: Once a reservation is Confirmed, trip
rescheduling is not permitted. In the event you wish to reschedule, your
original reservation will be cancelled (must be prior to final payment due
date) and forfeit the standard 10% cancellation fee. Clients may then
secure a new reservation based on availability.
Travel Insurance and Global Rescue
No refunds or rescheduling are available for circumstances beyond our control.
Because of the advance planning and commitments required for our wilderness trips, we strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance to protect your trip investment. Travel insurance may provide coverage for unexpected circumstances such as illness or injury, trip cancellation or interruption, travel delays, emergency evacuation or non navigatable conditions.
Coverage and eligibility vary by provider and policy, so we encourage all guests to review their options carefully and purchase coverage that best fits their needs.St. Peter’s Fly Shop recommends Global Rescue as an option for travel protection and emergency assistance. Global Rescue offers travel insurance and membership options designed for travelers and anglers, including coverage options for a variety of unexpected situations that may affect your trip.
Travel insurance is the responsibility of each guest and is not included in the cost of the trip.
