Jardines de la Reina Season Kickoff: Grand Slams, Smiles, and Saltwater Memories

The 2025 Fall/Winter St. Peter’s Destination Fly Fishing Travel season
is officially underway, and we couldn’t have asked for a better start. Our
first of four hosted weeks at Jardines de la Reina has just wrapped up — and it
was everything we dream of when we plan these trips. From early-morning flats to evening gatherings on the liveaboard deck, this was a week that reminded everyone why saltwater fly fishing holds such magic.

All of our 2025 trips are full, but it isn't to late to jump on one of our
2026 Cayo Romano Romano trips

Unforgettable Fishing Highlights

The fishing was simply exceptional. The group tallied multiple
Grand Slams
, an achievement that’s always worth celebrating. Over the
course of the week, anglers landed several permit — caught by six
different guests — along with more than 60 tarpon and countless big
bonefish
cruising the flats.

Equally exciting, we celebrated three first-time permit
and six first-time tarpon catches. Watching guests experience the thrill
of these bucket-list fish for the first time is what makes joining guest on
these trips so rewarding. The joy, high-fives, and shared excitement on the
boat were infectious.

From the steady patience of stalking tailing bones to the
heart-pounding chaos of a silver king going airborne, the variety and intensity
of the fishing kept everyone hooked — literally and figuratively.

Life Aboard the Avalon Liveaboard

The experience extended far beyond the fishing. Guests were
treated to top-notch accommodations aboard the Avalon liveaboard — comfortable
rooms, spacious decks, and a welcoming crew that made every day feel like home
on the water.

Each meal was an event of its own. From freshly caught
seafood to local specialties the food was as memorable as the fishing. Evenings
were spent swapping stories, smoking cigars, and dreaming of what the next day
would bring.

A Decade of Partnership and Unmatched Service

While the fishing and setting are world-class, what truly
elevates these trips is the partnership we’ve built over more than a decade
with Avalon Outdoor. Their guides and crew are more than just service providers
— they’ve become friends, colleagues, and an extension of the St. Peter’s
family.

The level of professionalism, warmth, and attention to
detail Avalon provides is second to none. From organizing gear and prepping
skiffs to anticipating every guest need, their dedication ensures every St.
Peter’s group feels like VIPs. It’s rare to find an outfitter that combines
such hospitality with such intimate knowledge of the fishery, and that’s what
keeps us coming back year after year.

Community, Camaraderie, and Conservation

Trips like this are about more than numbers or trophies —
they’re about shared experiences, new friendships, and the deep connection
anglers form with these incredible environments. Jardines de la Reina remains
one of the most pristine saltwater ecosystems in the world, protected by
decades of marine conservation work. Seeing healthy populations of permit,
tarpon, and bonefish thriving in such a balanced ecosystem is a powerful
reminder of what sustainable fly fishing can achieve.

Looking Ahead

As the first of four weeks comes to a close, the excitement
for the rest of the season is sky-high. Each new group brings fresh energy, new
stories, and a shared love for the chase. We’re already eager to see what the
next few weeks hold — more firsts, more Grand Slams, and more unforgettable
days in the on the flats of JDR
